Bishop Sutton Pre-School & Forest Club Newsletter

    February 2021

As another lockdown was announced after Christmas, we were hugely relieved to hear that Pre-Schools were allowed to remain open. We are enormously grateful to all our wonderful Pre-School staff for continuing to work and providing the opportunity for the children to benefit from ongoing access to the Pre-School environment. We feel very lucky in that respect.

Some highlights this term have been…the children learning the words and actions to the ‘Billy Goats Gruff’ story – we are sure many of you have been treated to a rendition or two at home. Children have been well wrapped up this term – spending as much time outdoors as possible and having windows open as has been recommended. Children at forest club have been having lots of fun in frosty mornings learning about maps and having treasure hunts in the forest.

Thank you so much to everyone for getting involved with our fundraising activities. We hope everyone is as excited as we are for Valentines Curry Night, kindly organised for the Pre-School by the fabulous team at Salt and Malt. We were delighted with the response and have had lots of orders. Our fundraising total for the year is over £2000 so far.

The committee have been busy planning some exciting fundraising activities for next term. We are planning a Pre-School Lockdown Recipe Book and will be shortly asking for your recipe ideas for baking and cooking with children. There are plans a foot for a sponsored toddle, an auction and events to mark World Book Day. We will also be hosting a terra-cycle recycling point for Hasbro toys. Please do let Lin, Kate or someone on the committee know if you’re still interested in getting involved with the committee or helping out with any fundraising as we’d love to hear from you.

We’d also like to remind you all of two other easy ways of raising essential funds for the Pre-School when doing any online shopping:

    1. Easy Fundraising: Visit www.easyfundraising.org.uk and click ‘Create an Account’, then ‘Find a cause to support’ and search ‘Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club’. Hit ‘Support this cause’, register your details and remember to turn on Donation Reminders. Every time you shop online at collaborating retailers, a notification will appear, and all you need to do is select ‘Collect Donation’. You can also download the Easy Fundraising app and shop directly through that.
    2. Amazon Smile – visit http://smile.amazon.co.uk, click ‘Get Started’, sign in to your account and then choose ‘Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club’ as your favourite charity. Every time you shop, 0.5% of your spend will be donated to the Pre-School. Just remember to always go through the smile.amazon.co.uk page before you start shopping.

Thank you so much to all of you who have been using these already, it really does all does add up!

As lockdown continues and it approaches a year of living with restrictions, we realise what a frustrating time this is for everyone. Thank you for continuing to support our Pre-School and enabling it to continue to flourish and provide a hugely appreciated slice of normality for our kids during these strange times. We hope you have a lovely, relaxing, cosy half term break together.

    With warmest wishes,

Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club Committee

Bishop Sutton Pre-School & Forest Club Newsletter

    December 2020

What a term this has been full of excitement in the build up to Christmas. The children have now settled in well and are really getting to know each other and explore all of what Pre-School offers.

Some highlights this term have been……..the children learning the words and actions to the fabulously festive ‘The Rockin’ Robin’s Christmas Party’ story written by Lin and Julie, our old manager. Hopefully you’ve had lots of opportunity to join in with this story. The children have also been singing many festive songs including, Jingle Bells, When Santa got stuck up the chimney, Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, We wish you a merry Christmas, and I’m a little snowman.

All of the children produced green handprints which were all combined into a Christmas Tree design for our super Christmas Card. At Forest Club on Thursdays, the children have continued to have lots of fun getting muddy in all weathers this season brings.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for getting involved with our fundraising activities. We are absolutely thrilled to report that almost £2000 has been raised for Pre-School this term. Our Christmas raffle was a huge success and we are extremely grateful to all the local businesses for donating incredible prizes (especially during these difficult times) and to everyone for buying so many tickets. We hope you all liked the Pre-School Christmas cards as much as we did. They were generously produced free of charge by a family member of a Pre-School parent, with all sale proceeds going straight to Pre-School.

The committee are already busy plotting fundraising activities for next term. There are plans in the pipeline for a sponsored toddle, an auction and events to mark World Book Day and Easter.

Please do let Lin, Kate or someone on the committee know if you’re still interested in getting involved with the committee or helping out with any fundraising as we’d love to hear from you.

As 2020 draws to a close, we are able to reflect on what an extraordinary year this has been. It has undoubtedly been a challenging time, and our thoughts are with all of you and your loved ones who have been affected by COVID. We hope you have been able to enjoy to some extent the additional family time the restrictions of this year have enforced. With vaccines on the horizon, we hope 2021 will be plainer sailing.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

    With warmest wishes,

Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club Committee

  • Raise funds as you shop!

    Dear Parents/Carers,

As you all know, the coronavirus crisis has hit charities like ours hard. Many of the pre-school’s usual fundraising events have had to be cancelled, leaving us unable to pay for new equipment and improvements to the outdoor area as we had originally hoped.

But the new committee have been busy coming up with ways to help raise the much-needed funds, and this one is really quick and easy – plus it won’t cost you a penny

With the shops closed, we suspect that many of you may now be opting to do your Christmas shopping online. By registering for an Easy Fundraising account and choosing Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club as your chosen charity, a small percentage of your total spend will be donated every time you shop at selected retailers. These include Argos, John Lewis, Not On The High Street, Marks & Spencer and many more.

Simply visit www.easyfundraising.org.uk and click ‘Create an Account’, then click ‘Find a cause to support’ and search ‘Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club’. Hit ‘Support this cause’, then register your details and remember to turn on Donation Reminders. Every time you shop online at collaborating retailers, a notification will appear, and all you need to do is select ‘Collect Donation’.

You can also download the Easy Fundraising app and shop directly through it to make donating to the pre-school even easier.

Another similar initiative is Amazon Smile. Visit http://smile.amazon.co.uk, click ‘Get Started’, sign in to your account and then choose Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club as your favourite charity. Every time you shop, 0.5% of your spend will be donated to the pre-school.

Just remember to always go to the Amazon Smile page first before you start shopping. It may help to create a shortcut to it on your desktop or mobile web browser.

If you do your shopping via the Amazon app, make sure you have the most recent version installed, and then under Settings within the app, tap on AmazonSmile and follow the on-screen instructions.

Registering for the above accounts should only take a few minutes, and the donations raised will mean that we can continue making our pre-school the fun, creative environment that the children so deserve.

Please forward this email on to any family and friends who may also wish to help!
