Bishop Sutton Pre-School & Forest Club Newsletter Feb 2019

Bishop Sutton Pre-School & Forest Club Newsletter Feb 2019

It’s hard to believe it’s the middle of February already. Christmas seems like a long time ago, even if freezing temperatures and beautiful snow days remind us it’s still winter. Here on the committee we’re looking forward to an exciting and eventful year ahead, a significant one for the Pre-School and Forest Club who will be celebrating their 50th and 10th birthdays, respectively. Watch this space for some very special events to mark these anniversaries. We hope you will be able to join the party(-ies)! And support us in our fundraising fun.

On that note we’d like to thank everyone who strengthened our efforts in 2018. We raised a fantastic amount for the Pre-School last year, the star on top being our incredibly successful Christmas Fayre. Believe it or not we’re already thinking about this year’s… Remember that we are always keen for your time and help, however much or little of those you can give, so if you are interested in volunteering or joining our happy committee then please let us know. Be assured that wine and chocolate are pre-requisites for our gatherings.

Looking to the year ahead, the Pre-School will be welcoming prospective families on our Open Day on Saturday 16th March between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. If you know parents who might be keen, this is a great opportunity to get a feel for what Lin, Julie and the staff do and to see first-hand the thriving environment in the School Room. (Also keep a lookout for our brand new tinkering trolley, due to land soon!) On Sunday 9th June we’ll be supporting the Chew Valley 10K with cakes and refreshments, then on Saturday 6th July Chew Moo’s ice cream parlour are planning a fundraising day and night at their gorgeous farm at East Dundry. Evening entertainments include a bar, band and hog roast. What more could you want?

Fifty years is a huge milestone for the Pre-School and it’s amazing to think of the many thousands of children who have passed through those doors, many of whom will now be parents, or even grandparents, themselves. The Forest Club enriches little ones’ lives in myriad ways, getting their hands dirty, feeling the sting of the rain on their cheeks, coming home with leaves in their hair and hot chocolate round their mouths, and we hope this first decade is the foundation of many. We wish to celebrate these twin landmarks in style over the summer, so expect a heads-up soon. Plans are afoot!

In the meantime, keep those long hot days in mind. The daffodils are nearly here…

With best wishes,
Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club Committee

It’s that time again! Dust off your jingle bells and shake out your tinsel, because December is fast approaching and so is our glittering Christmas Fayre. On Sunday 9 December 12-4pm at Bishop Sutton Village Hall we’ll be hosting a feast of festivities, complete with the return of Santa’s Grotto, children’s crafts, face painting, grand raffle prizes, and of course the chance to shop for one-off gifts. Indulge in a host of refreshments including mulled wine and cider, hot chocolate and crêpes, and our famously delicious Yule dogs. There’ll also be an opportunity to collect your Christmas tree – do just complete and return the order form you’ll have received from Pre-School. We look forward to welcoming you and making this one a cracker!

Also approaching is the ever-popular Christingle Service at Stowey Church on Sunday 2 December at 4pm. Bring your little ones to take part in the Christingle procession, sing along to carols by candlelight and hear the magical Nativity story. The church has a very special atmosphere and the service is the perfect way to shepherd in Advent.

Pre-School, too, is busy gearing up for the season, with Christmas activities galore and the ever-popular story of ‘The Rockin’ Robin’ flying in once again. Down the chimney also drops an array of brand new Pre-School equipment, including an exciting weather vane and windsock, sure to capture imaginations and enrich learning sessions. As always we are very much looking forward to the children’s Nativity Party, which takes place on Wednesday 19 December. There’ll be the usual lucky dip for food provision, so don’t be alarmed when someone approaches you with a box and asks you to have a rummage!

If you would like to volunteer to help at the Christmas Fayre, please add your name to the list outside the School Room or speak to one of the staff or committee. We need helping hands, keen bakers and tombola treats, and would be very grateful for any time or donations you can spare. All funds raised from the Fayre go to support the Pre-School and provide our children with the resources they enjoy every day. The Pre-School is a charity and without parents coming together to fundraise it simply wouldn’t be able to operate. We love and believe in our happy, nurturing, inspirational Pre-School and want it to thrive not just for our children but also for the village in years to come.

We had huge fundraising success at September’s Chew Moo’s Open Day, which was a wonderful event enjoyed by all who came. We’d like to sincerely thank committee member Suzanne and her family for their amazing generosity, for providing the children’s entertainments, the sunny weather and of course the scrumptious ice cream!

Please keep an eye out for our appeals over the coming months and do get involved if you can. There’s also an easy-peasy way to help support our efforts and that’s through the charity shopping fundraising site easyfundraising.org.uk. All you have to do is search for Bishop Sutton Pre-School then visit retailers and shop online as normal. Every purchase you make sends a lovely £2.5% automatically to our Pre-School. There are loads of major retailers signed on, so next time you’re thinking of buying from John Lewis or M&S, take just a few seconds to go through easyfundraising. You know it makes sense!

Until next time, keep warm and enjoy the jolly season
And best wishes,
Bishop Sutton Pre-School and Forest Club Committee

10 July 2018 : Come and join us at our AGM 2018

[et_pb_section][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text]

We are pleased to announce that our Annual General Meeting 2018 will be on Tuesday 10th July at The Link, Bishop Sutton at 8pm. We very much hope to see you there.

This is an important meeting for all parents and carers to attend, as we give an overview of the past year and look forward to the next.  An integral part of the AGM is the voting in of the Committee Members. As a charity organisation, the Pre School is unable to function without a Committee, which must include five members (including a Chair, Treasurer and Secretary) at the very least. Without these five members in place the Pre-School would sadly need to close.

Becoming a Committee member means you can help to continue and support the great work of the Pre School and Forest Club staff, providing such high quality childcare in our village, and it’s a great way to meet fellow Pre School parents too! There are plenty of different roles available, from event planning to fundraising, publicity to invoicing, and all members have a voice in shaping policies and best practice for our village Pre-School.

Tradition then dictates a trip to the Red Lion after the AGM for all committee members, new and old, and any parents who wish to join us! What’s not to love?!

If you have any queries regarding becoming a Committee member please do contact our current chairperson, Annabelle Spinney.

We hope to see you at the AGM, and will be delighted to welcome you on board!
